One of the most beautiful historic squares in Genoa is located exactly under the windows of our home. The area, initially cited as "Campus Sarzanni" as it was located near the square of Sarzano, was renamed with the name of Campo Pisano after the victory won by the Genoese fleet over the Pisans in the battle of Meloria (1284). In fact it is said that in this place, located at the time just outside the walls, thousands of Pisan prisoners were confined, most of whom, having died of hunger and hardship, were buried in that same place.

It is one of the main squares in the historic center of Genoa, and was the center of the Doria consortium, one of the most illustrious Genoese families.

Located very close to Piazza De Ferrari, it has a church on the south-east side rebuilt in 1278 in Gothic style and with a white and gray striped vestment (white marble and Promontorio stone). Subsequently the cloister was built, to the left of the church and behind Palazzo di Branca Doria. Inside the church we find works by Giovanni Angelo Montorsoli, Bergamasco and Luca Cambiaso.

The palaces of the Doria family were erected around the square. In them we find works of great value, for example in the Palazzo di Branca Doria we find works by Bernardo Strozzi.
